Prepare for an emergency
In the San Geronimo Valley help may not come right away if we experience a regional disaster. Our mission is to help Valley residents prepare for whatever emergency life sends our way. When an emergency happens, preparedness will make all the difference in how disruptive the emergency is to your life.
What you should do today:
Be Prepared to Leave
In case of regional emergencies, such as, wildfires and earthquakes, we may be ordered to evacuate our homes.
- Always have gas in your car especially if it’s fire season or scheduled power outages are a possibility.
- Know your evacuation route and have a backup route in mind, too.
- Have an evacuation site outside of the Valley
- Make sure your family knows the plan.
- Share your plan with family and friends
- Know your evacuation route
- Have a back up evacuation route in mind
- Always have half a tank of gas or more in your car
- Keep a ‘go bag’ in the trunk of your car or other easily accessible place.
- Have an evacuation site outside of the Valley

Be Prepared to Stay
In certain emergencies, you will need to be ready to stay home, stay safe and stay alert. Events like heavy smoke days, earthquakes where your home is not severely damaged, extended power outages, etc… will create a situation where you need to stay home for several days with little outside assistance.
Prepare your people and pets
Have a plan with your family members in place as soon as possible. This means all household members including your pets.

What is a go bag?
A Go Bag (also known as a Bug Out Bag) is a bag that is ready to grab on your way out the door in an evacuation situation. This could be in a backpack, duffle bag, suitcase, or anything that you can EASILY grab and head out the door with. It should contain anything you need to get by for 72 hours. This includes:
- Prescription Medicine
- Warm dry clothes
- Face masks (for COVID and for smoke/dust)
- Glasses or contacts
- Bottled water

You may want to keep your go bag in the trunk of your car or close to your main exit from your home.
